The Secret of Monkey Island for the Sega CD is an almost flawless adaptation of the original DOS game. Most of the excellent elements of this Lucasfilm PC adventure game remain intact on the Sega CD. Players assume the role of a young, naive aspiring pirate as he navigates the inhabitants, locales, and challenges of various Caribbean islands. Initially, the goal is to earn the title of a pirate, at least in the eyes of the pirate leaders frequenting a run-down bar. However, as the game unfolds, the story takes a supernatural and hilariously entertaining turn involving zombie pirates, sword fights, jailbreaks, monkeys, a lovely governor, cannibals, and even a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. Guybrush is relatively easy to control using the standard Sega controller, and a password feature enables players to save their progress. Despite a few flaws, the game serves as a flawless adaptation of a classic adventure game. What are these faults, you may ask? Well, some are the fault of Sega, and others can be attributed to Lucasfilm. The Secret of Monkey Island Classic Edition is available on a physical disc for the Sega CD, compatible in the NTSC region, and limited to 2,500 copies worldwide.
